The Opportunity

Civitas Talent is partnering exclusively with a Tier 1 building and construction organisation to appoint a Senior Safety Advisor for a flagship major build in the Greater Western Sydney region. This is a high-profile, complex project with significant community and public interest, currently mid-programme and tracking toward completion in early 2027.

This is a hands-on, site-embedded role. You will be present on the ground every day, working directly alongside project teams, subcontractors, and site management to keep safety practice visible, practical, and effective. Advisory and influence are as important as compliance.

What You Will Be Doing

• Providing active, on-site HSE advisory support to site management, supervisors, and subcontractor teams throughout the build programme
• Leading and participating in site inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and SWMS reviews across all construction activities
• Coaching and influencing frontline workers and subcontractors on safe work practice — making safety visible and credible at the coal face
• Investigating incidents, near-misses, and hazard reports; preparing findings and recommending corrective actions
• Supporting HSMS implementation and ensuring project compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and principal contractor requirements
• Driving toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and safety engagement sessions — presenting with confidence and clarity to mixed audiences
• Maintaining accurate safety records, registers, and reporting requirements
• Contributing to the broader project safety culture by partnering closely with project and commercial teams

What You Will Bring

Experience

• Substantial experience as a Safety Advisor or Senior Safety Advisor on commercial building or construction projects — you have done this before at pace
• Proven background working on complex, multi-trade build environments; stadium, civic, or large-scale commercial construction experience highly regarded
• Demonstrated ability to work in a hands-on, embedded role — you are site-focused and operationally credible with trade and subcontractor teams
• Confident incident investigation and root cause analysis capability

Qualifications & Credentials

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum); Diploma of WHS or higher desirable
• Current Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Relevant state-based tickets and licences as required
