Civitas Talent is recruiting two Interim HR Business Partners for immediate-start contracts of 8 to 12 weeks. Both roles are 100% remote and open to candidates anywhere in Australia. These are stopgap engagements while permanent recruitment runs in parallel, and they are paid on a day or hourly rate pitched at the equivalent of a circa $150,000 permanent package.
Be clear on what these roles are before applying: this is hands-on, high-volume, operationally demanding HRBP work in an environment where much of the HR infrastructure is still being built. It is not a caretaker contract. If you want a quiet interim assignment, this is not it. If you want to walk into a genuine challenge, make an immediate difference, and do it from your home office, read on.
About the company
The hiring organisation is a large, fast-growing organisation undergoing significant transformation. Further detail, including the organisation's name and sector, is shared with shortlisted candidates under confidentiality. What we can tell you is that the scale of change underway is substantial, the workload is real, and the HR function is being built from the ground up, which means the people who join now shape how it works.
What your weeks will look like
- Managing a high-volume caseload of complex employee relations matters, end to end
- Handling significant volumes of workers' compensation and psychosocial claims
- Supporting the build of a psychosocial safety and health and safety function that does not yet fully exist
- Partnering directly with demanding senior stakeholders who expect pace and straight answers
- Engaging with unions as part of day-to-day workplace relations activity
- Working within manual and immature processes, and improving them as you go
- Providing pragmatic generalist HRBP support wherever the organisation needs it that week
The environment moves quickly and priorities shift. Ambiguity is a daily feature, not an occasional inconvenience.
What you will bring
- Solid HR Business Partner or senior HR generalist experience at a level
- Deep, demonstrable workplace and employee relations capability, including complex casework at volume
- Genuine hands-on delivery. These roles have no room for strategy-only operators
- Resilience and pragmatism. You stay steady when the caseload is heavy and the answers are not obvious
- Comfort operating without mature systems, playbooks, or established processes
- Confidence partnering with senior stakeholders and holding your ground constructively
- Immediate or near-immediate availability for an interim contract
Nice to have
- Direct experience managing psychosocial claims and building psychosocial safety frameworks
- Health and safety exposure alongside your HR generalist background
- Union engagement and enterprise agreement environment experience
- Previous interim or contract HR assignments in scale-up or transformation settings

- 8 to 12 week engagements with a defined scope and an immediate start
- 100% remote working from anywhere in Australia
- Day or hourly rate pitched at the equivalent of a circa $150,000 permanent package
