An excellent opportunity has become available for an Assistant Accountant to join a highly respected, purpose-driven not-for-profit organisation delivering essential health and community services.
Working within a supportive and collaborative finance team, you will gain broad exposure across month-end accounting, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and financial reporting. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career accountant who is currently studying or intends to commence their CA or CPA qualification and wants to continue developing their technical accounting skills.

Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the Senior Accountants and broader finance team, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing monthly balance sheet and profit and loss reconciliations
- Preparing general journals and supporting month-end processes
- Managing bank reconciliations
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and capital expenditure schedules
- Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Assisting with credit card and employee expense reimbursements
- Maintaining property and motor vehicle lease schedules
- Assisting with annual budgeting processes
- Supporting year-end audits and statutory compliance requirements
- Assisting the Senior Accountants with monthly financial reporting
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
- Providing general accounting and administrative support as required
To succeed in this position, you will ideally bring:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting or a closely related discipline
- Approximately 1-3 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar accounting role
- Current study toward a CA or CPA qualification, or a genuine intention to commence
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and month-end processes
- Experience with bank reconciliations, journals, AP, AR and balance sheet reconciliations
- Knowledge of GST and BAS processing
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience using accounting or ERP systems
- Microsoft Business Central experience is desirable but not essential
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organisational skills
- A proactive attitude with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- A current driver's licence and access to a reliable car
