Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is an independent statutory body responsible for regulating safety and health in the state’s resources industries including coal mines, mineral mines and quarries, explosives and petroleum and gas.

The SIIU is responsible for conducting investigations into safety incidents in the mining, quarrying, explosives, and petroleum and gas resource sectors.

Reporting to the SIIU Investigations Manager, you will attend serious incidents and conduct complex investigations, performing functions under legislation regulated by RSHQ, including:

  • obtaining witness statements
  • conducting interviews, both voluntary and using compulsive powers
  • collecting evidence, including evidence obtained from incident scenes
  • compiling briefs of evidence for criminal, civil and administrative action
  • giving evidence in Magistrates, District and Coroners Courts.

You will liaise closely with a variety of stakeholders including members of RSHQ’s inspectorates, the RSHQ in-house legal team and the Office of the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, collaborating on investigations and prosecutions.

You will be part of a statewide team of dedicated investigators who will, with their range of experience, support you to achieve results.

You will be required to travel to remote and environmentally challenging areas of Queensland to conduct investigations and may be away from base for multiple days. However, both positions provide the opportunity to work from the office and from home when you are not travelling.

While experience in the resources sector would be advantageous, more important will be your:
•  experience and qualifications as an investigator
•  ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
•  adaptability to change
•  commitment to being part of a team.

The role provides for an on-call out of hours allowance and ongoing training opportunities.

There are two positions available.
•  Mackay – permanent (this position provides for five weeks recreation leave per year)
•  Brisbane – temporary for two years

(If you have previously applied for this position, please do not reapply).

You will possess the relevant background and experience, have success in a similar role and you will also be skilled in inspiring individuals and teams in the pursuit of world class service delivery and leadership management.

For a confidential discussion and to obtain a copy of the role description, please contact Ian Quinn at Dean & Ling Executive on 0403 343 097. Applications, including your resume and a synopsis of how your experience, abilities and knowledge are relevant to this role, can be submitted no later than midnight on the 16th August 2026 via the Apply button.
