Senior Environmental Noise Consultant

Embankment Group is working on behalf of a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Environmental Noise Consultant to join its growing acoustics team.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced consultant to take a leading role in the delivery of environmental noise, vibration and acoustics projects across the UK.

The position offers exposure to a broad range of sectors, including major infrastructure, commercial and residential development, healthcare, education, energy and public-sector projects. You will work alongside specialists from a range of technical disciplines, providing acoustic advice from early-stage feasibility and planning through to detailed assessment and project delivery.

The role can be based from London, Manchester, Leeds or Leicester, with flexible and hybrid working available.

The Role

As a Senior Environmental Noise Consultant, you will be involved in:

• Managing and delivering environmental noise and vibration assessments.
• Undertaking noise surveys, monitoring and technical site work.
• Preparing noise and vibration models using appropriate industry software.
• Assessing the potential impacts of proposed developments and infrastructure schemes.
• Developing practical noise and vibration mitigation strategies.
• Providing building acoustics input where required.
• Preparing high-quality technical reports to support planning applications and other project requirements.
• Applying relevant UK acoustic standards, legislation, policy and industry guidance.
• Managing projects from initial proposal through to final delivery.
• Coordinating project programmes, budgets and technical outputs.
• Working alongside environmental, planning, engineering and other technical specialists.
• Providing clear technical advice to clients, project teams and other stakeholders.
• Supporting technical discussions with local authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Contributing technical evidence to hearings or public inquiries where required.
• Preparing fee proposals, tenders and scopes of work.
• Developing existing client relationships and supporting the generation of new work.
• Reviewing work produced by colleagues and providing technical guidance.
• Mentoring and supporting more junior members of the acoustics team.
• Maintaining strong standards of quality, health and safety across project delivery.

About You

We are interested in speaking with acoustic consultants who can demonstrate:

• A degree in Acoustics, Physics, Audio Technology or another relevant technical discipline.
• Professional experience within environmental noise and acoustics consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of environmental noise and vibration assessment.
• Experience undertaking and managing acoustic surveys.
• Competence using relevant noise modelling software and monitoring equipment.
• A good understanding of UK noise legislation, standards, planning policy and technical guidance.
• Strong technical report-writing skills.
• Experience managing projects, budgets and programmes.
• The ability to manage several projects and competing deadlines.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and experience preparing fee proposals or tenders.
• The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Membership of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), or progress towards professional membership, would be advantageous.

A full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake occasional travel to project sites will be required.
