Therefore, understanding corporate actors’ drivers, constraints and enablers is essential for those seeking to limit climate change and encourage a sustainable future. From power-mapping corporate boards and digging into the potential financiers of proposed fossil fuel projects to sectoral research focused on green future-facing industries, this multi-faceted role will require identifying and implementing creative and nimble research solutions to produce impactful insights that’ll empower Sunrise Project’s and its partners’ efforts to hasten progress towards a sustainable future. Your role will include: Investigating corporate and project financing (equity and debt) of the Australian fossil fuel sector Leading research into other forms of financial support to the fossil fuel sector (such as Insurance, government subsidies and export credit agencies assistance) Conducting investigations into corporate ownership structures, governance and taxation arrangements Undertaking sectoral research projects mapping the corporate actors and business prospects in a diverse range of campaign-relevant industries. Communicating the results of your research in clear and compelling ways to colleagues, movement partners and, where appropriate, public audiences Developing a network of experts spanning corporate, advocacy and academic sectors, drawing on their insights and commissioning research as required About you You thrive on following a trail and extracting meaning from vast swathes of information, distilling your insights into pithy, informative and impactful research. Previous experience conducting investigative research in journalistic, political or advocacy contexts would serve as a helpful background for this role. Those from industrial or financial sector backgrounds keen to apply their skills in a very different, advocacy setting are also encouraged to apply. You are passionate about positively contributing to combatting the climate emergency facing our planet and have a demonstrated commitment to action on climate change. In addition, you will have: Highly developed research and investigative skills - previous experience undertaking corporate and/or financial investigations particularly advantageous A good understanding of corporate and project financing (debt and equity) advantageous; Knowledge of corporate/financial climate change initiatives, policies and standards an advantage Highly developed numerical, analytical and reporting skills, with an excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to synthesise and distil complex technical information for a non-specialist audience Well-developed interpersonal skills, a commitment to collaboration and relationship building particularly with issue experts and movement partners If your relevant experience is from volunteering, from the grassroots or is lived experience and you meet some but not all the criteria for this position, but you’re keen on the role and believe in the cause, please get in touch.
