- Ownership of technically complex projects from initial design and calculations through to fabrication and delivery.
- Work closely with experienced engineers, drafters and manufacturing teams in a practical, collaborative environment.
- Complete the structural design and analysis of overhead-crane systems.
- Design bridge girders, runway beams and associated supporting structures.
- Calculate crane wheel loads, dynamic forces and relevant load combinations.
- Assess fatigue, buckling, deflection and local stresses within crane structures.
- Develop practical designs for fatigue-sensitive welded and fabricated steel components.
- Prepare engineering calculations, design reports and verification documentation.
- Use structural-analysis and FEA software to model and validate designs.
- Review drawings and provide technical guidance to drafting and manufacturing teams.
- Resolve engineering queries arising during fabrication, installation and commissioning.
- Independently manage design deliverables across multiple projects.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant crane, structural and manufacturing standards.
- A degree in Structural, Civil or a closely related engineering discipline.
- At least five years of direct, hands-on overhead-crane design experience.
- Experience personally designing crane structures—not solely inspecting, maintaining or commissioning cranes.
- Strong experience with bridge girders, crane runways and supporting structures.
- An understanding of both the crane structure and its interaction with the runway system.
- Experience calculating dynamic crane loads and fatigue-sensitive structural details.
- Knowledge of AS 1418 or another internationally recognised crane-design code.
- Experience with structural-analysis, FEA, calculation and CAD packages such as SpaceGASS, Strand7, Mathcad and AutoCAD, or comparable software.
- Practical knowledge of structural-steel fabrication, welding and manufacturing.
- CPEng, RPEQ or progress towards professional registration.
