This is a 6-month Reward and Benefits contract based in Norwest, in Sydney's Hills District. It suits a hands-on remuneration specialist who likes building things properly rather than maintaining someone else's system.
The business has grown from around 20 people to 80 in the last two years. The reward side hasn't kept pace. There are some foundations in place, including SMART goals, a basic rem and bens setup and early bonus arrangements, but they were built for a much smaller company. Your job is to take what's there and turn it into something that works for a business of this size and pace.
The role is offered as a fixed-term contract, with a daily rate arrangement also on the table for the right person.
About the company
Our client is a privately owned, fast-growing business working across energy and data centre infrastructure. These are two sectors where good people are hard to find and harder to keep. The leadership team knows its high value people are central to the next stage of growth, and they want a reward structure that gives those people a real share in what they're building.
Day in the life
No two weeks will look the same, but the work falls into a few clear areas:
- Reviewing the current KPIs and SMART goals, and linking them to performance and pay in a way people understand
- Building out the remuneration framework, including pay bands, market benchmarking and job levels suited to a growing workforce
- Reviewing and designing bonus arrangements, covering both STI and LTI: eligibility, measures, payout timing and governance
- Designing ways to share value with key employees so the people the business most needs to keep have a genuine reason to stay
- Reviewing the benefits offering and recommending practical improvements that fit the budget
- Writing clear, plain language guides, FAQs and briefing notes so managers and staff know how their pay and bonuses work
- Presenting recommendations to the leadership team and working closely with finance on costings
- Setting up simple processes and templates the business can run after your contract ends
What you will bring
- Solid experience in reward, remuneration or total rewards, ideally with time spent building or rebuilding frameworks rather than only running an annual review cycle
- Hands-on experience designing or reviewing STI and LTI plans, including bonus measures and eligibility
- Experience with salary benchmarking, pay bands and job levels
- A practical approach to retention and a clear view on how reward keeps high value people engaged
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex pay arrangements to senior leaders and frontline staff in plain words
- Comfort working in a smaller, growing business where you'll be building from a light base
- Confidence working independently and delivering within a 6-month window
- Availability to work from the Norwest office
Nice to have
- Reward experience in energy, infrastructure, engineering, construction, data centres or technology
- Exposure to equity or share-based schemes, phantom equity or profit share arrangements for key employees
- Experience in a business that has grown quickly and outpaced its people systems
- A background moving between reward and broader HR business partnering
- Tertiary qualifications in HR, commerce, finance or a related field
What's on offer
- A 6-month engagement with scope to make a visible impact from the first week
- Fixed-term contract preferred, with a daily rate option available: [salary or daily rate range TBC]
- A role with real ownership, where your work shapes how the business rewards and keeps its people for years to come
- Direct access to the leadership team and a business that is ready to act on good advice
- Based in Norwest, with easy access from the Hills District, Parramatta and north-west Sydney
