This is an exciting time to join a world-leading wildlife tracking engineering, manufacturing and sales team. You will be based in Hawkes Bay New Zealand, whilst working closely with the Canadian parent company.
This is a very clever business - the hardware and material you will be working on enables wildlife of all shapes and sizes to be tracked across the globe. Lotek specialises in manufacturing devices that track creatures spanning avian, freshwater, marine and terrestrial wildlife forever aiming to innovate with smaller, stronger lighter devices. Their Radio, Acoustic, Archival, GPS and Satellite instruments deployed on animals throughout the world provide insight to animal behaviour, and how and where they spend their lives.

The core of this role is to design and create prototypes, moving prototypes into manufacturing, and enhancing existing product design and offerings. You will work closely with the engineering, production, and product management teams to design and bring to market new products and to refine existing products. You will ensure their smooth transition to commercial production as well as refining and redeveloping existing devices. Throughout this process, you will create and maintain documentation for all new parts, components, and assemblies. You will provide technical direction and guidance to technical staff and assist with training and development initiatives. A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on higher quality and efficiency is essential.
This role is suited to a tertiary-qualified engineer, with a track record ideally in packaging design, prototyping and verification testing. You must be able to demonstrate experience in design and hands-on fabrication of light production jigs and fixtures. Ideally you will have expertise relating to small battery-powered electronic packaging including mouldings. Either way, you must understand and show competence in the behaviour of epoxies, fabrics, glues, silicones and 4-axis CNC machining. Proficiency with SolidWorks is important and knowledge and expertise in materials a definite plus.
You would be a self-starter with the ability to show initiative and think outside the box. Our products are highly unique and often fall outside conventional industry norms, incorporating materials sourced from a wide range of applications.
