Our client are specialists in log transport, providing log cartage services to customers across the North Island. They are well established, have a great reputation and pride themselves on investing in quality machinery and people.
As their Transport Dispatcher, you will sit right in the heart of the business. You will be responsible for effectively coordinating the transportation of log loads from various locations, to ensure customer and company KPIs are met as well as ensuring maximum cartage capacity is reached for each truck. You’ll coordinate and manage the schedules of trucks ensuring pickup and delivery targets are met, maintain all logistics data via in house software, and monitor and report on daily dispatch. You’ll be good at building credibility with each of the drivers, ensuring they have all the information they need to be set up for each day. You’ll have your finger on the pulse and be ready to respond and find solutions to any interruptions or issues to the schedule. There is complexity that sits around the grading of logs, and destinations in which these can go to, so you’ll need to be able to quickly come up to speed with these standards.
There are lots of moving parts here and an environment where plans can change quickly, so you must be good prioritizing workloads and communicating openly and clearly with where things are at.
This role will be well suited to those experienced working in dispatch. Ideally you will come from a dispatch role within the logging transport industry, however we are open to considering candidates from other industries. You must be level headed, be known for your problem-solving skills and have the ability to think quick on your feet. You’ll have strong relationship skills and be able to build rapport quickly with the drivers. If you have your HT license, that will be a real bonus.
You must relate to the pace and customer centric focus of a privately held company where the owners are hands on and play an active part in the business. You’ll be confident navigating various software systems and driving efficiencies. You may be working in a logging, forestry or transport company currently and looking for that next challenge, or you may or you could be an experienced log truck driver looking to move into an office-based role.
