Paxus is partnering with a major Federal Government organisation to engage one (1) Senior Data Analyst to support the design, analysis and delivery of trusted statistics and data-driven insights for operational and decision-making outcomes.
This is a great opportunity for a hands-on analyst who can work across data analysis, business/process analysis, stakeholder engagement, documentation and delivery support in a complex enterprise environment.
Contract details
- Location: Canberra, ACT (hybrid)
- Estimated start date: Monday, 2 November 2026
- Initial contract: to 30 June 2027 with up to 2 x 12 months
- Hours: up to 40 hours/week
- Onsite expectation: Full-time onsite for the first month (or until up to speed), then minimum 2 days per week onsite in Canberra
- Security: Baseline clearance must
What you’ll be doing
You will work with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements, analyse data and systems, and support delivery of improvements. Key responsibilities include:
- Analysing business processes, systems, data flows and operational needs to identify improvement opportunities
- Eliciting, documenting and validating business, functional and non-functional requirements
- Producing analysis artefacts such as process maps, workflow diagrams, use cases and user stories
- Analysing data from multiple sources to identify trends, risks, issues and opportunities
- Supporting systems analysis and impact assessments for changes/enhancements
- Creating and maintaining high-quality documentation (requirements, process models, reporting materials, etc.)
- Supporting testing activities (test planning, UAT support, defect management)
- Supporting data quality and data governance activities to improve consistency/integrity
- Facilitating workshops and stakeholder sessions, building consensus and communicating insights clearly
- Contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge transfer, with documentation stored per recordkeeping policies
Deliverables you may produce
Depending on project needs, deliverables can include:
- Technical specifications and designs (including matrices)
- System design specifications
- Workflows, events and sequence diagrams
- UML diagrams
- Environment/context definitions
- Unit test plans
Essential skills / experience (aligned to capability expectations)
- Business intelligence reporting support using standard tools, including data preparation from existing sources
- Business situation analysis in ambiguous/complex environments, including root cause analysis and actionable recommendations
- Strong data communication skills: translating insights for technical and non-technical audiences, and confidently challenging/validating results
- Ability to identify and structure research questions and define measures/approaches to answer them
- Scripting/programming capability for simple programs (design, code, test, document, refactor) with good engineering and security practices
- Ability to interpret and create basic visualisations (charts/graphs) and explain them clearly
Desirable experience
- Requirements elicitation and workshop facilitation with cross-functional stakeholders (data/intelligence/risk/operations)
- Data and systems analysis across processes, integrations and enterprise environments (process maps, use cases, impact assessments)
- Supporting delivery and governance: requirements management, testing support, risk/issue identification, documentation, and working in multi-disciplinary teams
