Morgan Consulting is delighted to partner with an established and highly regarded specialist engineering services business as they look to appoint an experienced Service Manager – Pumps to lead their workshop and field service operations.
Operating within the pump and mechanical services sector, the business supports a broad customer base across the repair, overhaul, maintenance, installation and commissioning of pumps and associated rotating equipment.
This is not a purely office-based management role. It is a hands-on position suited to an experienced pump professional who enjoys remaining close to the workshop, the equipment and the team while taking responsibility for scheduling, quoting, technical support, customers and overall service delivery.
About The Role
Reporting to senior management, you will take ownership of day-to-day workshop and field service operations, coordinating jobs from initial assessment and strip-down through to quotation, repair, testing, commissioning and completion. You will remain actively involved in the technical side of the operation, working closely with fitters and service personnel, reviewing equipment condition, supporting fault finding and repair decisions, identifying parts and ensuring work is completed safely and to the required engineering standard.

You may currently be working as a Service Manager, Workshop Manager, Mechanical Supervisor, Leading Hand or highly experienced Pump Fitter who is ready to take broader ownership of a service function while still remaining technically involved.
Importantly, you will understand pumps from a practical perspective. You will be comfortable assessing equipment, reviewing strip reports, identifying repair requirements, supporting troubleshooting and discussing technical solutions with both tradespeople and customers.

- Managing and prioritising workshop and field service schedules
- Coordinating mechanical fitters, tradespeople, resources and equipment
- Assessing pump repair requirements and supporting technical fault diagnosis
- Reviewing strip reports and determining appropriate repair scopes
- Preparing accurate and commercially sound quotations
- Identifying, measuring and sourcing pump components, parts and materials
- Liaising with suppliers around pricing, availability and delivery
- Providing technical guidance and support to workshop and field personnel
- Monitoring jobs from strip-down through to repair, assembly, testing and commissioning
- Ensuring all repair and service work meets engineering best practice
- Maintaining strong quality control across workshop and site activities
- Coordinating pump installation and commissioning activities where required
- Ensuring service, repair and commissioning documentation is completed accurately
- Managing customer communication throughout the service and repair process
- Driving strong safety standards across workshop and site environments
- Improving workshop efficiency, job turnaround and overall service performance

- Strong knowledge of pump components, failure modes and repair requirements
- Experience with rotating equipment and associated mechanical systems
- Ability to assess equipment condition and determine appropriate repair scopes
- Experience reviewing strip, repair and commissioning reports
- Strong workshop and field service experience
- Previous leadership, supervisory or service coordination experience
- Strong scheduling and resource planning capability
- Experience preparing repair and service quotations
- Strong parts identification and supplier coordination capability
- Ability to provide practical technical guidance to mechanical tradespeople
- Strong understanding of engineering best practice and quality control
- Strong safety awareness across workshop and site environments
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and competing priorities
- Strong customer communication and commercial awareness
- Current Driver's Licence, with Forklift and Confined Space certification highly regarded
