Our client is the Queensland Government's Department of Education, responsible for delivering the infrastructure pipeline that supports growing communities across Queensland. Within the Infrastructure Services Division, the New Schools Planning team plays a critical role in planning and preparing future public schools, ensuring projects are strategically developed and ready for delivery.
About the Role
Reporting to the Program Director – New Schools Planning, you will lead the planning phase of significant new school infrastructure projects, acting as the central point of contact from project initiation through to completion of key planning deliverables. Working alongside a team of specialist external consultants, you will oversee the development of business cases, secure statutory planning approvals, coordinate procurement activities and prepare funding submissions. You will provide strategic project advice to senior management while ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with government frameworks, governance requirements and agreed project objectives.
- Leading the development of Preliminary Evaluations and Detailed Business Cases.
- Managing Ministerial Infrastructure Designations and other planning approvals.
- Coordinating and managing multidisciplinary external consultant teams.
- Overseeing consultant contracts and procurement activities.
- Developing and maintaining project programs, risk registers and governance documentation.
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies and external partners.
- Preparing executive briefings, monthly reports and project updates.
- Facilitating stakeholder meetings and presenting to governance committees.
About You
You are an accomplished Senior Project Manager with extensive experience delivering complex infrastructure or property development projects. You are confident managing multiple stakeholders, navigating governance frameworks and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- 10+ years' experience managing infrastructure or property development projects (essential).
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex planning and project delivery activities.
- Strong experience preparing business cases, project documentation and executive reports.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience managing consultants, contracts and procurement processes.
- Strong project planning, risk management and governance capability.
- Previous client-side and/or public sector experience will be highly regarded.
