AI Engineer (Contract)

AI Engineer | C# / React / TypeScript | Auckland | 4-Month Contract
An Auckland-based financial services/insurance organisation is mid-way through a significant AI transformation and needs a sharp engineer to jump in and keep the momentum going. This is a hands-on contract role where you will be building and integrating real AI-powered solutions.

Immediate start. Four-month engagement. Interviews will be held online asap.

The Role

• Build and integrate AI-driven features, services, and APIs using C# (.NET)
• Develop front-end components and interfaces using React JS and TypeScript
• Work with Azure AI services and LLM platforms in a production environment
• Collaborate with a small, capable engineering team to ship quality, maintainable code
• Contribute to agentic workflows, API integrations, and responsible AI practices

What You'll Bring
Must-haves:

• Strong, hands-on C# (.NET) experience, particularly building and consuming APIs
• Solid React JS and TypeScript skills
• Practical experience with AI/ML development in a production setting
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving team where things are being built, not just planned

Nice to have:

• Azure cloud experience, particularly Azure AI Foundry or Azure API Management
• Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, or RAG architectures
• Background in a regulated industry such as insurance or financial services
