Our client is a leading specialist medical college and membership organisation that plays an influential role in shaping healthcare policy, advocacy and specialist medical practice across Australia. Working closely with government, healthcare stakeholders and medical specialists, the organisation advocates for evidence-based policy and improved patient outcomes through high-quality research, advocacy and policy development.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Policy, Advocacy & Engagement, this is a hands-on Policy Manager role for an experienced policy professional who can work autonomously and deliver high-quality policy outcomes.
You'll lead the development of submissions, briefings, position statements and advocacy materials, undertaking research, stakeholder consultation and policy analysis to support the organisation's policy and advocacy priorities. Key focus areas include workforce policy, access to care, health equity, specialist training and broader healthcare reform.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop evidence-based policy submissions, consultation responses, briefings, position statements and advocacy documents
- Research, analyse and synthesise complex policy, legislative and regulatory issues
- Coordinate consultation and input from members, committees and subject matter experts
- Monitor developments across the health policy landscape and identify emerging advocacy opportunities and risks
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government departments, agencies, professional bodies and external stakeholders
- Represent the organisation at meetings, consultations and policy forums
- Support committee and working group activities, including preparation of papers, reports and documentation
- Contribute to the delivery of broader policy, advocacy and strategic projects
- Demonstrated experience developing policy submissions, consultation papers, briefings and advocacy outputs
- Exceptional drafting skills and the ability to turn complex information into clear, persuasive policy documents
- Strong policy analysis, research and evidence review capabilities
- Experience engaging with government, peak bodies or other external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines
- Strong judgement, initiative and the ability to work autonomously
- Good understanding of the Australian health system and policy environment (highly desirable)
- Experience within a healthcare, medical college, membership, advocacy or policy environment (highly regarded)
