Our client is a well-established Australian engineering and manufacturing business operating within the materials-handling sector is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for its Ingleburn team.
With a national footprint supporting major industrial, mining, manufacturing and infrastructure clients, the business designs, manufactures and delivers complex overhead-crane, lifting and materials-handling systems.

- Ownership of technically complex projects from initial design and calculations through to fabrication and delivery.
- Work closely with experienced engineers, drafters and manufacturing teams in a practical, collaborative environment.
- Design complete overhead-crane arrangements and mechanical systems.
- Develop mechanical layouts from customer specifications and project requirements.
- Design and select end carriages, trolleys, hoisting mechanisms and travel systems.
- Design or specify wheels, shafts, drums, sheaves, hooks and associated components.
- Size and select motors, gearboxes, brakes and drive systems.
- Complete mechanical, load, drive and fatigue calculations.
- Conduct or review FEA and other engineering analysis.
- Produce 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Prepare bills of materials, engineering reports and technical documentation.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, testing, installation and commissioning.
- Investigate technical issues and implement practical design improvements.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant crane and machinery standards.
- A degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or a closely related engineering discipline.
- At least five years of direct, hands-on overhead-crane design experience.
- Experience personally designing complete cranes or substantial crane components and systems.
- An understanding of both the crane itself and its runway or supporting structure.
- Strong mechanical calculations and component-selection experience.
- Knowledge of AS 1418 or another internationally recognised crane-design code.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and drafting software such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, or comparable packages.
- Experience with engineering calculation or FEA software.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and design documentation.
- Practical experience working with welded fabrication, machining and manufacturing teams.
- CPEng, RPEQ or progress towards professional registration will be viewed favourably but is not mandatory.
