About the Role
This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for an experienced water infrastructure professional with strong expertise in treatment assets, lifecycle planning and investment prioritisation.
You’ll provide technical leadership across strategic asset planning for treatment facilities and associated infrastructure, helping translate risk, performance, growth, resilience and regulatory drivers into long-term capital and renewal strategies.
This is a role for someone who enjoys complex infrastructure decision-making, evidence-based planning, technical influence and mentoring others.
Based in Wellington, this is a permanent role offering highly competitive remuneration, aligned to the seniority, technical influence and strategic scope of the position.
You will:
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of Facility Management Plans for treatment assets
- Apply whole-of-life asset management principles to renewal, refurbishment and replacement strategies
- Translate asset condition, performance, risk and growth drivers into long-term investment priorities
- Provide senior technical advice across treatment processes, modelling and regulatory requirements
- Support business cases, scoping documents and technical reports for investment decisions
- Champion risk-based planning and data-driven decision-making
- Work closely with operations, technical, planning, delivery, risk and compliance teams
- Mentor engineers and support technical capability across the wider team

About You
You’ll bring recognised expertise in water infrastructure planning, treatment assets and technical leadership, together with the ability to turn complex technical information into clear, practical investment advice.
You are likely to have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, ideally Chemical, Environmental, Civil or a related discipline
- Chartered Professional Engineer status, or equivalent senior technical credibility
- Around 12+ years’ experience in water infrastructure planning
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, asset lifecycle planning and hydraulic or process modelling
- Proven experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Confidence developing or reviewing business cases, technical reports and planning documents
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- The ability to communicate technical complexity clearly to a range of audiences
- A collaborative, self-motivated style and a commitment to delivering public value
