Some people manage territories. Others build them. Which are you?

The best Business Development Managers don't wait for opportunities.
They create them.

They know which doors are worth knocking on, which retailers have real potential and how to build partnerships that deliver long-term commercial success.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.

We're partnering exclusively with an ambitious premium pet nutrition business that's investing significantly in the future of its independent retail division. Already recognised for innovation and quality, the business is entering an exciting new phase of growth and is looking for an exceptional Business Development Manager to help shape what comes next.

This is a confidential appointment with a business that's prepared to invest in the right people, back good ideas and reward commercial success.

This isn't a role for an order taker.

It's for someone who enjoys the challenge of winning new business.
Someone who sees opportunity where others see obstacles.
Someone who's commercially confident enough to challenge customers, influence decisions and build partnerships that deliver value for everyone involved.
You'll inherit a territory with genuine opportunity, but you'll also be expected to create your own.
You'll decide where to invest your time, which opportunities deserve your attention and how to build a profitable customer base that delivers sustainable growth.
You'll have the freedom to think commercially, not simply work through a call file.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12 months, you'll have built a strong pipeline of independent retail customers, strengthened existing relationships and developed a territory that delivers profitable, sustainable growth.
You'll become a trusted commercial partner to your customers, not just another salesperson calling through the door.

Internally, you'll contribute ideas, share market insight and help influence the future direction of the retail channel. This business values people who challenge constructively, think differently and aren't afraid to ask, "Can we do this better?" Those qualities were repeatedly highlighted during the hiring brief.

Who We're Looking For

You'll probably already be working as a Business Development Manager, Area Sales Manager or Territory Sales Manager.
What matters most is your mindset.
You're naturally curious.
Commercially astute.
Highly organised.
Comfortable prospecting.
Disciplined with CRM.
You enjoy planning your week, building your pipeline and taking ownership of your results.
You understand the difference between winning an order and building a customer.
Experience within the pet industry, animal health or FMCG would be advantageous, but exceptional sales professionals from other premium branded sectors are equally encouraged to apply.

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't about filling a vacancy.
It's about building the future.
The business is investing heavily in retail growth and has ambitious plans over the coming years. As the commercial team evolves, there will be genuine opportunities to influence future strategy, shape your territory and grow your career alongside the business. That long-term investment in the retail channel was a key part of the company's vision for this hire.

What's on Offer
  • £40,000 - £45,000 basic salary
  • £7,000 car allowance
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Pension
  • Staff discount
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
If You're Happy Maintaining Accounts...

This probably isn't the role for you.
If you're motivated by building territories, opening doors, influencing customers and making a visible commercial impact, we'd love to have a confidential conversation.
