Lead Project Engineer - Collision Avoidance Systems

Lead vendor engagement on a newly established Collision Avoidance Systems project within one of WA's largest mining operations. You'll be the key technical interface between our client and an external vendor delivering capability into an internally developed autonomous haulage platform.

About the role:
You'll sit at the centre of a newly formed Collision Avoidance team, coordinating between engineering, project, product, and site stakeholders internally, and one external vendor delivering into an internal software platform.
This is a coordination and leadership role, not hands-on engineering. You'll be the person who keeps requirements, decisions, and deliverables aligned and traceable across the full project lifecycle, managing engineering deliverables through to sign-off and working daily between engineers, developers, and stakeholders.

• Rate: Up to $125/hr + super, based on skill and experience
• Contract: 12 months rolling + extensions based on performance
• Location: Perth CBD + WFH
• Travel: Potential for interstate + overseas vendor visits

What you'll be doing:

• Act as the primary coordination interface between external vendors, engineering teams, project team, product team, and site personnel
• Manage and track engineering deliverables across the project lifecycle, securing engineering sign-off on designs and related artefacts
• Support coordination of technical interactions with external vendors, including requirements clarification, design discussions, and technical queries and follow-ups
• Ensure outputs from technical sessions are documented, actionable, and tracked to closure
• Maintain visibility of vendor inputs, assumptions, and responses
• Translate engineering intent (requirements, behaviours, constraints) into clear and structured communication for Project, Site, and Vendor stakeholders
• Coordinate and track progress of engineering artefacts (e.g. requirements, design, and related technical outputs) across the product lifecycle
• Work daily between engineers, developers, and stakeholders to keep deliverables moving and aligned
• Ensure that deviations, clarifications, assumptions, and key decisions are captured and documented, communicated to relevant stakeholders, and tracked for follow-up where required
• Highlight gaps, inconsistencies, or risks in artefact alignment to appropriate stakeholders

What you'll need to be successful in the role:

• Full Australian working rights - no Visa sponsorship or relocation assistance provided
• 8+ years' experience in delivering complex systems or products
• Engineering membership (e.g. Engineers Australia or equivalent) to support formal design sign-off
• Demonstrated experience managing technical stakeholder relationships across engineering, product delivery teams, operations, and external vendors in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Strong background in software engineering, systems engineering, systems integration, or hardware-integrated development
• Knowledge of autonomous mining systems, collision avoidance technologies, and safety-critical operational systems
• Proven experience working through product development lifecycle, delivering software and hardware to customers
• Familiarity with ISO 21815, and with ISO 61508-aligned development environments (e.g. ISO26262, EN51708)
• TÜV Functional Safety certification highly regarded
• Ability to identify interdependencies, integration risks, and downstream impacts
• Track record of promoting a strong safety culture in all engineering and project activities
