Senior Manager, Merchandising & Product Sourcing

Executive Recruitment Consultant Monroe Consulting Group is working with a leading international home improvement and general merchandise retailer, with an established presence in Indonesia and a broad product assortment covering home improvement, household, lifestyle, hardware, and general merchandise products.

As part of its continued business growth, the company is looking to appoint a Senior Manager Merchandising & Product Sourcing to lead strategic product sourcing, product development, and assortment development for the Indonesian market.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead strategic product sourcing and product development initiatives based on Indonesian consumer needs, market trends, and business opportunities.
• Identify assortment gaps, emerging trends, new product opportunities, and potential categories relevant to the Indonesian market.
• Translate consumer and market insights into commercially viable product and assortment recommendations.
• Manage the end-to-end product development process, from product ideation and sourcing through supplier engagement, evaluation, and commercialization.
• Work closely with international sourcing teams and suppliers/manufacturers in China to identify and develop relevant products for the Indonesian market.
• Identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with strategic suppliers and manufacturers.
• Collaborate with suppliers on product specifications, quality, costing, pricing, lead time, and product development requirements.
• Conduct market, competitor, and category analysis to ensure the assortment remains relevant, differentiated, and commercially competitive.
• Evaluate product opportunities based on consumer relevance, sales potential, pricing, margin, and overall category strategy.
• Partner with the local merchandising team to translate product sourcing opportunities into the appropriate local assortment and category strategy.
• Drive category and assortment development initiatives to improve product productivity, differentiation, competitiveness, and commercial performance.
• Lead negotiations with suppliers and business partners to achieve optimal commercial terms.
• Manage and influence stakeholders across local commercial teams, international teams, sourcing offices, and external suppliers.
• Present product, sourcing, category, and assortment recommendations to senior management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in product sourcing, product development, merchandising, buying, category development, or related functions.
• Strong track record in product sourcing, product development, and supplier/vendor management.
• Experience in home improvement, household, hardware, hardgoods, general merchandise, lifestyle, or consumer products is highly preferred.
• Experience working within an international buying office, global sourcing organization, multinational retailer, or consumer product business is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of consumer trends, market insights, assortment development, and commercial evaluation.
• Proven experience managing suppliers/manufacturers, particularly those based in China or other international sourcing markets.
• Strong commercial acumen with an understanding of costing, pricing, margin, and product profitability.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Mandarin proficiency is highly preferred.
• Comfortable working independently and driving initiatives in a newly established role.
• Willingness to travel internationally when required.
