Merchandiser — Building Materials

Overview


A leading international trading and sourcing organisation is looking for a Merchandiser (Building Materials) to support its regional supply operations.

This role is key in driving end‑to‑end sourcing, supplier management, and product execution across a diverse building materials portfolio, including cement, steel, roofing, tiles, and hardware. You will work closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure competitive pricing, product compliance, and reliable delivery across global markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end‑to‑end merchandising process including RFQ, sourcing, negotiation, and order execution
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with China-based manufacturers and suppliers
  • Handle product development lifecycle including specifications, sampling, and compliance documentation
  • Monitor supplier performance on quality, pricing, and delivery standards
  • Prepare costing analysis and pricing strategy, factoring in commodity price trends (e.g. steel, cement)
  • Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely shipment and accurate documentation
  • Support quality control, pre-shipment inspections, and claims handling
  • Analyse product and market performance to drive range optimisation and sourcing decisions
  • Maintain accurate order, supplier, and pricing data for reporting and tracking
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure operational efficiency and commercial success

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 4–5 years’ merchandising / sourcing experience in building materials, construction products, or industrial goods
  • Hands-on experience managing supplier base in China and full order cycle
  • Solid knowledge of building materials categories (e.g. steel, cement, tiles, sanitary ware, hardware)
  • Understanding of product specifications, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Exposure to commodity pricing and cost drivers is highly preferred
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills
  • Analytical mindset with good data handling capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential
