Data Engineer, Client Reporting (Contract)

Company/Role Overview

A technology organisation is looking for a Data Engineer to support a client reporting environment across data engineering, system enhancement and ongoing production support activities. The role will work closely with business analysts, stakeholders, users and technology teams to understand requirements, design appropriate data solutions, maintain data quality and reliability, and support the day-to-day operation of data platforms and pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with business analysts, stakeholders, users and technology teams to understand business requirements, user journeys, functional specifications and data requirements.
• Design, build, test and maintain scalable data pipelines, data models and data integration solutions that support business and operational needs.
• Translate functional and data requirements into reliable and maintainable technical designs aligned with defined user journeys.
• Source, ingest, transform and curate data from multiple internal and external systems for downstream consumption and analytics.
• Work with business analysts to validate data logic, business rules, data mappings and transformation requirements, including data profiling, reconciliation and testing to ensure data quality, completeness and accuracy.
• Manage system enhancements, bug fixes, production issues and change requests, ensuring changes are appropriately assessed, tested, documented and aligned with business needs.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including data pipeline designs, data flow diagrams, data mappings, data models, interface specifications and operational runbooks.
• Support data governance and data management initiatives by implementing relevant controls, standards and processes, while ensuring solutions comply with internal technology, security, risk and governance requirements.
• Perform BAU monitoring, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, remediation and production support for data platforms and pipelines.
• Monitor pipeline, platform and system performance and identify opportunities for optimisation, automation and improved resilience.

Job Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in data and application support.
• Strong experience and knowledge in Python and SQL.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working in an Agile environment.
• Fast learner with the ability to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
