Apply directOur client is a leading global provider of outside broadcast, live production and technical broadcast services, supporting some of the world’s largest sporting, entertainment and live television productions.
Operating across major live events, the company provides advanced outside broadcast facilities, flypacks, remote production systems and technical infrastructure to broadcasters, rights holders and production companies.
They are now looking for an experienced Guarantee-level Vision Engineer to join their UK engineering team.
The Role
This is a senior, hands-on engineering position responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of complex vision systems across outside broadcast trucks, flypacks and remote production environments.
You will take technical ownership of vision systems from initial preparation and system configuration through to on-site delivery and live transmission.
On larger productions, you will work as part of a wider engineering operation. On smaller productions, you may be expected to take the technical lead, working independently and making key engineering decisions.
The role has a strong emphasis on video and vision engineering, combined with a working knowledge of modern IP and network-based broadcast infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of vision systems from preparation through to live delivery.
- Lead the setup, configuration, testing and validation of OB and flypack systems.
- Set up and support technical infrastructure at venues, including pitch-side production environments.
- Engineer complex vision chains incorporating cameras, CCUs, vision mixers, routers, multiviewers, monitoring and tally systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot video routing, signal distribution and monitoring systems.
- Work across traditional SDI and hybrid SDI/IP production environments.
- Support network-based broadcast infrastructure and IP-connected production equipment.
- Integrate vision systems with replay, audio, communications and wider production infrastructure.
- Act as the senior vision engineering authority on live productions when required.
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults quickly in time-critical live environments.
- Configure and support broadcast control, orchestration and monitoring systems.
- Produce and maintain system diagrams, technical documentation and build records.
- Contribute to improvements in system design, workflows, engineering standards and reliability.
- Support and mentor less experienced engineers.
About You
You will be an experienced Vision, OB or Broadcast Engineer who is comfortable taking responsibility for technically complex live productions.
You should have strong hands-on knowledge of the complete video signal chain and be capable of setting up, configuring and troubleshooting systems independently in the field.
Experience working on major sports, entertainment, concert or other large-scale live productions would be particularly relevant.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong experience within outside broadcast, live production or complex live-event environments.
- Hands-on experience with professional video and vision systems.
- Strong understanding of video signal flow and routing.
- Experience with professional broadcast cameras and CCUs.
- Experience with vision mixers / production switchers.
- Strong knowledge of routers, multiviewers, monitoring and signal distribution.
- Excellent understanding of SDI-based production environments.
- Experience with OB trucks, flypacks or portable production systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical problems during live productions.
- Experience taking technical ownership of productions or leading smaller productions independently.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in time-critical live environments.
- Strong planning, documentation and communication skills.
