About the Role
We are seeking a Database Administrator to join our client’s Database Hosting Team within Aladdin Platform Engineering. The team is responsible for the reliability, stability and performance of mission-critical database platforms supporting global financial systems.
In this role, you will support enterprise database environments across transactional and analytical workloads, data warehousing and distributed data platforms. You will also contribute to automation, performance optimisation, high availability and operational resilience across on-premises and cloud environments.

In this role, you will support enterprise database environments across transactional and analytical workloads, data warehousing and distributed data platforms. You will also contribute to automation, performance optimisation, high availability and operational resilience across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration & Operations: Administer and support enterprise database platforms, including OLTP, OLAP, data warehousing and distributed NoSQL systems.
- Platform Reliability: Maintain high availability, performance and resilience for mission-critical financial systems operating across global environments.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop and enhance monitoring, maintenance and operational tools using Python, Perl, Java or other scripting languages.
- DevOps & Continuous Improvement: Improve database deployment, monitoring and operational efficiency through automation and DevOps practices.
- Performance Optimisation: Troubleshoot database and system performance issues, identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- High Availability & Replication: Support database replication, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
- Cloud & Infrastructure Support: Work across on-premises and cloud environments to support scalable, secure and reliable database services.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with infrastructure, application and business teams globally to resolve issues and support technology improvements.
- Technology Innovation: Explore automation and AI-assisted development tools to improve operational efficiency and simplify maintenance processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline is preferred.
- Ideally, 4 or more years of experience in enterprise database administration or database engineering.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following database technologies:
- Sybase ASE/IQ
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Snowflake
- Distributed NoSQL platforms or Azure Cosmos DB
- Sybase ASE/IQ
- Experience with database replication, high availability or data replication tools such as Sybase Replication, Microsoft SQL Server HA, HVR or Fivetran is advantageous.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Programming or scripting experience in Python, Perl, Java or Go.
- Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Ansible/AWX, Git or Azure DevOps is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments, shell scripting and system performance analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on automation and operational excellence.
- Exposure to AI-assisted coding and productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot or Windsurf.
- Experience supporting business-critical systems in an enterprise environment.
- A proactive mindset with a strong interest in continuous learning, automation and technology innovation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
