Role Overview
As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for acquiring new SME banking relationships through referral partnerships, internal stakeholder networks and proactive business development activity. Role Overview
As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for acquiring new SME banking relationships through referral partnerships, internal stakeholder networks and proactive business development activity. You will act as a trusted adviser to new customers, identifying lending and banking opportunities while ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.
Key responsibilities
- Build and manage a pipeline of new-to-bank SME customers through first party channels
- Develop strong referral relationships with internal stakeholders and external business partners
- Identify customer needs across lending, deposits, cash flow, payments and everyday banking solutions
- Structure lending opportunities and work closely with Lending Managers on complex submissions
- Conduct customer needs reviews and deliver tailored banking solutions
- Analyse financial statements, balance sheets, cash flow and serviceability
- Prepare high-quality lending proposals and credit submissions
- Maintain strong market knowledge across the SME sector
- Represent the business in local markets, networking events and referral channels
- Deliver a high-quality onboarding experience and warm handover to relationship teams
- 5+ years’ experience in business banking, commercial banking or SME banking
- Proven business development and customer acquisition capability through direct channels
- Experience building referral networks and stakeholder relationships
- Strong financial analysis, credit assessment and lending knowledge
- Ability to review financial statements, cash flow and serviceability
- Strong understanding of SME customers and their banking needs
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship management skills
- Experience preparing lending submissions and structuring deals
- Strong commercial acumen and customer-focused mindset
