Software Engineer (Java)

`Profusion Group are partnering with a leading banking customer located in Sydney with an expansion of their software engineering practice. These are permanent positions, although could look at day rate contractors who would be willing to transition internal after 12 months. 

The client is looking for someone with the following:

About you:

• Extensive experience building modern applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot within cloud-native environments.
• A deep understanding of designing and operating resilient, observable, scalable, and maintainable distributed systems.
• Proven experience leading technical design, architecture, and engineering decision-making across complex technology landscapes.
• The ability to remain hands-on with coding while also providing technical leadership and strategic direction.
• Experience developing proof-of-concepts, assessing emerging technologies, and guiding technology adoption decisions.
• Strong knowledge of system scalability, reliability, performance, and operational excellence principles.
• A passion for mentoring engineers and elevating technical capability, engineering standards, and best practices across teams.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across both technical and business audiences.
• Practical experience leveraging and advocating for AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, or similar technologies to improve developer productivity and software quality.
• Sound understanding of technology lifecycle management, including obsolescence planning, security, regulatory compliance, privacy requirements, and risk management.

Desirable Skills The following experience would be highly regarded:

• Experience designing and implementing solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture patterns in large-scale distributed systems.
