Job Description: Paint Quality Lab Technician

The Paint Quality Lab Technician , evaluates painted components and incoming materials to ensure they meet strict customer and industry standards . The role typically requires a high school diploma and 1–3 years of quality control experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Testing: Perform adhesion tests, dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, gloss assessments, hardness testing, and color matching.
  • Defect Analysis: Inspect painted parts for runs, sags, fisheyes, orange peel, and poor coverage.
  • Material Evaluation: Test incoming paint batches, chemicals, and coatings to verify raw materials against specification sheets.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record test results, update laboratory logs, and prepare clear inspection reports for management.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment such as gloss meters and thickness gauges.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with Paint Supervisors and Quality Engineers to implement corrective actions and resolve paint-related issues.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma required; a technical or associate degree in Quality, Chemistry, or Coatings is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in paint inspection, lab testing, or quality control.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with coating processes, technical standard sheets, and basic chemistry.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods and lift up to 25–30 lbs.
