Machine Learning Engineer – Computer Vision

6-month initial contract | Melbourne | Hybrid

We are looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join a Melbourne-based organisation delivering production-grade AI and computer vision solutions.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who has experience taking machine learning and computer vision models beyond experimentation and into real-world production environments.

The role

You will work across the development, deployment and optimisation of machine learning solutions, with a particular focus on computer vision.

You will be involved across the ML lifecycle — from data preparation and model development through to deployment, monitoring and ongoing improvement.

What you will be doing

• Design, build and optimise machine learning and computer vision models
• Develop solutions across areas such as image classification, object detection, segmentation and/or video analytics
• Build production-quality ML applications and services using Python
• Deploy and operate ML workloads within AWS
• Develop scalable data and inference pipelines
• Evaluate model performance and improve accuracy, reliability and efficiency
• Work with engineering and business stakeholders to translate real-world problems into practical ML solutions
• Contribute to MLOps, automated deployment, monitoring and model lifecycle management

What we are looking for

You will bring strong commercial experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Computer Vision Engineer or similar, including:

• Strong hands-on Python development skills
• Commercial experience developing computer vision solutions
• Strong understanding of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals
• Experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow and/or OpenCV
• Experience deploying ML solutions into AWS cloud environments
• Understanding of production ML/MLOps practices
• Experience building scalable, maintainable and well-tested production code
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Experience with AWS services used for machine learning, containerisation, CI/CD and production model deployment will be highly regarded.

The opportunity

This is an initial 6-month contract with a Melbourne-based team offering a hybrid working arrangement.

You will have the opportunity to work on genuine computer vision problems where machine learning is being applied to real-world use cases rather than purely proof-of-concept work.
