Our client's Engineering & Construction (E&C) Business Unit is seeking a BESS Project Management Consultant to support daily project coordination of internal and external resources across Development, Engineering, Estimating, Supply Chain, Scheduling, and Construction activities. This role supports Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from pre-construction (Early Stage) through the point of Construction.
Job Responsibilities:
In this role, you will manage and support a variety of projects within the Engineering & Construction (E&C) department.
Essential Job Duties and Job Functions:
- Coordinate highly matrixed project development teams to ensure resources are focused on the right activity at the right time to meet project schedules
- Coordinate with environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, interconnection, and other functions to ensure all project variables are identified and incorporated
- Develop the project's technical scope
- Optimize project variables to improve technical and financial feasibility
- Support origination and development teams with PPA and GIA negotiations
- Support development teams with jurisdictional needs
- Coordinate engineering, estimating, and procurement requirements
- Support the engineering team with technical attributes for design development
- Support the cost estimating team in developing the financial model
- Seek out and leverage market data to ensure the financial model remains accurate
- Present the financial model to relevant business units and manage it through executive budget approvals
- Competitively source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for critical services including geotechnical, survey, engineering, and EPC/PC construction services
- Uphold and represent the business unit's interests on assigned projects
- Use a variety of software applications to manage critical data, deliverables, and key indicator reporting
- Support process improvement and efficiency initiatives to scale for growth
- Deliver regular presentations and briefings on progress, issues, and risk mitigation to various levels of management
- Ensure projects moving to the Construction stage are turned over to the Construction Project Manager with an inclusive, executable construction plan
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously at varying stages, spanning a portfolio across the United States and Canada
- Travel occasionally to project locations and to support Development with local public hearings
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent project management, communication, financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with electricity markets, renewables, and/or battery projects is a plus
- PMP Certification preferred
- Advanced Excel skills preferred
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- 4+ years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Finance/Accounting preferred, with experience in engineering and construction of renewable energy projects preferred
