WHS Consultant - 3 Month contract - Logistics/Manufacturing

Our client, a large-scale logistics and fulfilment operator, is looking for a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist (WHSS) to join their Brisbane site on a 3-month contract. In this role, you'll act as the on-the-ground safety authority, driving the rollout of the organisation's safety framework and embedding a strong, proactive safety culture across the operation. Please note, candidates will be required to be on-site. 

You'll be a confident and clear communicator, comfortable presenting to associates on the floor as well as operations leaders and safety coordinators. Part coach, part trainer, part advisor — you'll help site teams translate corporate safety standards into everyday practice, while constantly scanning for smarter, better ways of doing things and folding those improvements back into the standard approach.

Reporting and metrics will be a core part of the role. You'll keep daily, weekly and monthly safety data accurate and up to date, feeding both local leadership and head-office reporting systems. Using lean and kaizen-style thinking, you'll drive continuous improvement projects aimed at cutting safety and ergonomic risk across processes — all in service of a genuinely safe working environment for frontline staff.

Success in this role comes down to trust. You'll need to build real credibility with the operations team, backed by solid risk assessments and sharp data analysis that makes the case for change.

You'll also support the site's WHS Manager in maturing the broader safety management system — refining procedures and training content, keeping the compliance calendar on track, managing internal safety tools, reviewing documentation, and running inspection and audit programs.

What you'll be doing:

• Taking ownership of health & safety outcomes across the fulfilment centre, working proactively on safety initiatives site-wide and acting as the go-to for H&S advice.
• Keeping the site compliant with company policy and global standards — running risk assessments, benchmarking performance, and mining safety data for improvement opportunities.
• Running regular audits and inspections, catching non-compliant equipment or processes early, and checking that record-keeping holds up against global and regulatory requirements.
• Guiding and developing the site's safety coordinators — spotting compliance gaps, emerging risks, and areas ripe for improvement.
• Leading incident investigations from start to finish, including timely and accurate logging in the incident database.
• Delivering safety observations, audits and targeted training, and rolling up your sleeves on process improvement work.

A typical day:

• Reviewing the numbers in the Daily Deep Dive dashboard and flagging anything that needs attention.
• Assigning callout owners to walk the team through issues at the daily meeting.
• Chairing the WHS data discussion during that meeting.
• Reviewing incident investigations, root cause analyses and action plans submitted by responsible managers, and coaching them where needed.
• Running risk assessments, leading the safety committee, and working alongside operations managers to resolve issues.
• Being on call for on-site emergencies — unsafe loads, incidents, and similar events.
