Financial Accounting Team Leader
Temporary | 6-month contract | ASAP Start
Local Council, South East Melbourne
38 hours per week | Hybrid work arrangement
$65-$70 per hour + superannuation
  
We are looking for an experienced Financial Accounting Team Leader to join our client, a well-established local council in Melbourne’s south east. This is a senior leadership role where you’ll guide a capable finance team through a key reporting period, driving statutory compliance and financial operations across a large public sector organisation. A great opportunity to step up and make a real impact.
  

What you'll be doing

• Lead the Financial Accounting function, including supervision of Financial Accountants, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams
• Drive end-of-year activities, including preparation of Annual Financial Statements for the council’s annual report, audit liaison and implementation of audit recommendations
• Coordinate statutory returns including FBT, GST and Grants Commission, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government legislation
• Manage the council’s short and long-term cash flow, investment portfolio and banking systems to ensure liquidity and maximise returns
• Review and authorise journals, oversee month-end processes and maintain general ledger integrity, internal controls and systems improvements

  
What we're looking for

• Previous experience in local government, healthcare, education, NFP, or state/federal government
• 3-5 years’ experience in a similar financial accounting leadership role
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA or CA qualification
• Advanced MS Excel skills
