An NZ-based horticulture company is looking for a Cell Line Development Scientist to help develop innovative plant cell systems that solve real-world industry challenges.
Working closely with the Chief Scientist and founders, you will develop plant cell lines with targeted traits by understanding and influencing biochemical pathways.
This is a hands-on laboratory role for a scientist who enjoys creating new approaches, designing experiments, and turning biological insights into practical solutions. This is a hands-on laboratory role for a scientist who enjoys creating new approaches, designing experiments, and turning biological insights into practical solutions. Responsibilities
- Design and independently execute experiments to develop and optimize plant cell lines
- Apply knowledge of plant biology and biochemical pathways to influence desired cellular traits
- Develop and improve tissue culture workflows and experimental approaches
- Troubleshoot biological challenges and create solutions with a high degree of autonomy
- Work closely with the Chief Scientist and founders to translate scientific opportunities into industry applications
- Generate, analyse, and communicate experimental results to guide development decisions
You will have:
- Strong plant biology knowledge, particularly plant cell biology and biochemical pathways
- PhD preferred, or equivalent industry experience
- Experience with plant tissue culture
- Ability to independently design experiments, troubleshoot, and drive projects forward
- Several years’ experience in a research or industry environment
Nice to have:
- Experience with callus induction, somatic embryogenesis, or cryopreservation is beneficial
This position is not focused on:
- CRISPR or gene editing
- Genomics or genetic characterisation
- Genetic engineering approaches
- Bioreactor systems or liquid suspension culture scale-up
