Paxus is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to support a major capability development program within a highly complex Commonwealth Government environment.
This opportunity will suit a project professional who understands the challenges of progressing significant capability investments from concept and planning through governance, stakeholder engagement and investment decision-making.
The Opportunity
You will play a key role in coordinating capability development activities, managing project governance and supporting the development of business cases, executive documentation and investment proposals.
Working with senior stakeholders, operational users, technical teams and industry partners, you will help shape delivery priorities, manage project dependencies and support the transition towards more iterative and agile ways of working.
This is a role requiring sound judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to bring structure and direction to a complex, evolving project environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and coordinate project activities across capability development, planning, governance and delivery preparation.
- Manage schedules, risks, issues, dependencies, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate business cases, investment proposals, executive briefs and governance documentation.
- Engage with senior stakeholders, operational users, technical delivery teams and industry partners.
- Support capability roadmaps, prioritisation, incremental delivery planning and evolving agile practices.
- Coordinate industry resources and support workforce planning, cost estimation and project investment activities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project team members.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience managing complex Defence or Commonwealth Government projects or programs.
- Strong understanding of the Defence Capability System, capability development processes and investment governance.
- Experience supporting major capability investments, including governance reviews, business cases and executive decision-making.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to manage project schedules, risks, dependencies and reporting within complex delivery environments.
- Ability to operate effectively where requirements, priorities and delivery approaches continue to evolve.
Highly Desirable
- Experience with capability development, experimentation, prototyping or risk reduction activities.
- Exposure to Agile, SAFe or product-based delivery approaches.
- Background in logistics, data and analytics, command-and-control, interoperability or complex ICT programs.
- Experience working with Capability Sponsors, operational users and technical delivery agencies.
- PRINCE2, PMP, Agile, SAFe or equivalent project management certification.
Location & Security Clearance
Canberra-based candidates are highly desirable.
Applicants must hold a current AGSVA NV1 security clearance as a minimum. NV2 clearance is highly desirable.
