Western Health is a leading public health service in Melbourne's west, delivering care across multiple campuses and community settings to one of Australia's most diverse and growing populations. Guided by its vision to deliver the healthcare of the future - simple, sustainable, connected and innovative - Western Health is committed to providing the best of care for every patient, every time. The organisation's Best Care Framework reflects a deep commitment to safe, person-centred, equitable and continuously improving healthcare. Grounded in strong values and a culture of collaboration and learning, Western Health is recognised for its commitment to clinical excellence, consumer partnership and workforce development across a complex, high-volume healthcare environment.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Quality & Safety Officer is a key member of the executive leadership team and is accountable for the strategic direction and operational oversight of quality and safety systems, clinical governance, emergency management, occupational health and safety and patient experience across Western Health. Leading the newly established Directorate of Quality and Safety, this role brings together previously distributed functions - including Best Care Safety and Experience, Best Care Improvement and Systems, Best Care Governance and Compliance, Occupational Health and Safety and Emergency Management - into a unified, integrated portfolio. The position champions a contemporary, systems-based approach to healthcare quality and safety, incorporating Safety-II principles, human factors and organisational learning to reduce variation, strengthen resilience and embed a sustained culture of continuous improvement across a complex healthcare environment. This is a genuinely consequential leadership opportunity for a clinician or senior leader ready to operate at enterprise scale.
You are a medical practitioner or senior executive with significant leadership expertise in quality, safety and clinical governance within a complex public or private health service with a proven track record of delivering measurable uplift across complex, multidisciplinary organisations. Your expertise spans clinical governance, healthcare quality and safety, patient experience, enterprise risk and organisational improvement and you hold strong knowledge of national accreditation standards and risk management frameworks. A Fellowship of a relevant professional college, or equivalent qualification, is highly regarded, as is experience within large tertiary health services. You are a strategic systems thinker who balances organisational oversight with operational delivery and engages and influences credibly at Board, executive and clinical levels. Above all, you are driven by a genuine commitment to patient-centred care and the opportunity to make the healthcare of the future a reality for the communities of Melbourne's west.
