About the organisation
Box Hill Institute (BHI) is one of Victoria's major public providers of vocational, higher education, and secondary education, recognised for its strong industry partnerships, practical training approach, and diverse program offerings. It operates as a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institution and delivers qualifications across multiple sectors both in Australia and internationally. Under its current leadership, the Institute has undergone a significant transformation in its culture and financial performance. Two years into a new strategic plan, clear foundations and governance processes are in place. The executive team is a collaborative, high-performing group, focused on achieving the Institute's strategic objectives.
About the role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director Academic Governance provides Institute-wide leadership across educational governance, quality assurance, curriculum development, and academic standards spanning VET, VCE/VCAL, Higher Education, and contracted and international delivery. The portfolio includes developing and overseeing BHI's Academic Governance Framework, including curriculum renewal, teaching and learning practice, and pedagogy approaches that support delivery areas to meet the needs of students, industry, and regulators. A key compliance and risk focus spans the requirements of ASQA, TEQSA, VCAA, and VRQA, as well as obligations under the VET Funding Contract. Working closely with the Executive Director Education Delivery, this role aligns academic governance and delivery priorities, and serves as Executive Officer to the Board's Education Quality Committee.
About you
You hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and bring senior executive experience within a complex education or training environment. Your deep understanding of the Victorian TAFE and training system - including regulatory and contractual requirements across VET, VCE/VCAL, and Higher Education - is matched by demonstrated capability in governance, quality assurance, and audit frameworks. You are an effective people leader who builds capability, drives continuous improvement, and fosters a performance culture across a diverse team. Your stakeholder engagement skills are well developed, and you are equally comfortable working with regulatory bodies, industry partners, and internal leadership. You bring the analytical rigour and political nous to navigate a complex, multi-sector education environment with confidence.
