About the Company

Our client is a large, established essential-services organisation supporting communities across Victoria. With a strong focus on sustainability, innovation and continuous improvement, the organisation operates in a complex and highly regulated environment.

The Finance team is collaborative and experienced, with responsibility spanning Accounts Payable, Financial Accounting and Reporting. Following the implementation of Oracle Fusion and Primavera, the team is continuing to work through process improvements and a backlog of accounting activity, creating an immediate need for an experienced Financial Accountant to provide additional capability and flexibility.

About the Role

This is a 6-month temporary assignment for an experienced Financial Accountant who can step into a broad, hands-on role and support the team across a range of financial accounting priorities.

You will assist with key financial reporting and external compliance obligations while helping maintain the integrity of the general ledger, fixed asset register and other core financial records. The role will also provide support across technical accounting, statutory reporting, transactional accounting and financial controls.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting month-end and year-end accounting and reporting activities.
• Preparing and reviewing reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving outstanding items.
• Assisting with statutory and business reporting requirements.
• Providing practical technical accounting and tax support where required.
• Supporting general ledger and sub-ledger accounting activities.
• Assisting with fixed asset accounting, including capitalisation, depreciation, disposals and work-in-progress.
• Supporting project accounting and related reconciliation activities.
• Assisting with internal and external audit requirements.
• Monitoring financial controls and compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
• Working with stakeholders across Finance and the broader business to resolve accounting issues.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting efficiency.

This role does not require a specialist in taxation or fixed assets; however, you will need a sound working knowledge across both areas and the confidence to operate as a well-rounded Financial Accountant.

About You

You are an experienced Financial Accountant who is comfortable working across a broad remit and can quickly adapt to changing priorities.

You will bring:

• Strong pervious experience in a Financial Accounting role.
• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Business.
• CPA or CA qualification.
• Strong knowledge of accounting concepts, standards and tax fundamentals.
• Proven experience across general ledger and sub-ledger accounting.
• Experience preparing statutory and business reporting.
• Strong reconciliation skills, including investigating and resolving variances.
• High proficiency with finance ERP systems and databases, with Oracle experience highly regarded.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• A proactive approach to identifying process improvements.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a busy environment and step into different areas as team priorities shift.
