API Technical Lead

Location: Sydney
Contract: 6 month rolling engagement for multiple years



About the Opportunity

A leading global technology consultancy is seeking an experienced API Technical Lead to support a major Australian financial services organisation.

This role will lead the end-to-end delivery of an API-focused program, working closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and delivery partners. You will help define requirements, produce solution documentation, design scalable integrations, and guide development within an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the end-to-end technical delivery of the program.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders.
• Finalise functional specifications and interface documentation.
• Work with business teams to define functional requirements for new services.
• Coordinate technical and stakeholder reviews and sign-offs.
• Document and communicate changes within a team-based Agile delivery structure.
• Produce API requirements, designs, and functional specifications.
• Design robust, scalable interfaces that integrate varied systems and technologies.
• Collaborate with development teams on technical ideas and applications.
• Support internal and external consultants across workshops, consulting assignments, and delivery engagements.
• Mentor junior consultants in technical practices and delivery.
• Proactively remediate software issues involving code quality, security, frameworks, and design patterns.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong experience delivering API frameworks and integration solutions.
• Commercial development experience with:
  • Java 8 or later
  • Spring Framework 5.x
  • Spring Boot 2.x
  • JUnit 5
  • Mockito
  • Java-based logging frameworks
  • Postman
  • Modern integrated development environments
• Experience designing infrastructure and DevOps solutions.
• Strong API requirements, design, and functional-specification documentation skills.
• Demonstrated experience delivering technology projects in banking.
• Previous experience within the end client’s technology environment is mandatory.
• Strong debugging capabilities.
• Experience producing clean, efficient code using test-driven development.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

Knowledge or practical experience with the following technologies and practices would be advantageous:

• Maven
• Git
• Splunk
• Bamboo
• Swagger
• Software design patterns and standards
