About the Role
The Database Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of enterprise database environments supporting mission-critical systems. This is a hands-on technical position focused on managing PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases within secure, compliance-driven environments.
You will work closely with technical and development teams to optimise performance, maintain data integrity, and support complex operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Maintain and administer database systems, including PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Monitor database performance and optimise queries, indexes, and configurations
- Perform database backups, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning
- Maintain database security policies, access controls, and compliance standards
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide technical support to development teams
- Create and maintain database documentation and schemas
You are a proactive, technically strong Database Administrator who enjoys working in secure, structured environments and taking ownership of complex systems.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ experience in database administration
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL
- Experience working with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
- Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or SQL
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel within Australia to customer or partner locations, including secure sites
- Australian citizenship with an AGSVA NV2 security clearance
- Relevant database or infrastructure certifications
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience using monitoring tools such as Splunk
- Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Python, SQL
- Tools: Compass, DBeaver
