Senior Software Developer 
Location: Singapore (Hybrid)
Contract Duration: 12 months

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to support the development and enhancement of a scientific data governance and discovery platform used across a large research organisation.

You will be responsible for delivering software features end to end, from technical design and development to testing, documentation and production deployment. The role focuses on building reliable backend services, REST APIs, database migrations and cloud infrastructure within an established engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend applications and feature modules using Python.
  
  
• Design and implement REST APIs, including authentication, authorisation, validation and error handling.
  
  
• Manage database schema changes and migrations for live production systems.
  
  
• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  
  
• Develop automated unit and integration tests to ensure software quality.
  
  
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with the engineering team through branching and pull request workflows.
  
  
• Support CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance.
  
  
• Prepare technical documentation and operational runbooks.
  
  
• Contribute to frontend development when required to deliver assigned features.
  
  

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience building and maintaining production software applications and services.
  
  
• Strong Python programming skills with experience using a web framework.
  
  
• Proven experience designing and developing REST APIs.
  
  
• Hands-on experience implementing and deploying database schema migrations in production.
  
  
• Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation or equivalent tools.
  
  
• Commercial cloud experience, preferably AWS.
  
  
• Strong knowledge of automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  
  
• Experience with Git-based branching, pull requests and code reviews.
  
  
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.
  
  
• Strong written technical English, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  
  

Good to Have

• Experience with data cataloguing, metadata management or data governance platforms.
  
  
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools.
  
  
• Frontend development experience using modern JavaScript frameworks.
  
  
• Previous experience working in Singapore government agencies or statutory boards.
  
  
• Relevant cloud certifications.
