Chief Financial Officer

The Opportunity
This is a broad finance leadership role within a business that wants finance to play a bigger part in where it goes next.
  
Working alongside the leadership team, you’ll bring greater commercial focus to planning, performance and decision-making across the organisation. Rather than simply reporting on what has already happened, you’ll help the business understand what is driving its results, where the opportunities sit and what may need to change.
  
There is still a hands-on element to the position. You’ll have oversight of the core finance function and will need to be comfortable moving between strategic conversations, commercial analysis and the practical realities of running finance in a busy organisation.
  
It’s a role with genuine breadth and visibility, offering the opportunity to influence business direction while remaining closely connected to operational performance and financial delivery.

The Role

• Work alongside the leadership team on business priorities, future plans and key commercial decisions
• Bring greater visibility to the factors driving revenue, margin, costs and overall performance
• Lead annual planning and regular forecasting, giving the business a realistic view of what lies ahead
• Build models and business cases around investment, pricing, growth opportunities and operational change
• Turn financial and operational information into clear recommendations that leaders can act on
• Ask the right questions, test assumptions and provide constructive challenge when decisions are being made
• Maintain close oversight of cashflow, working capital and the organisation’s wider financial position
• Oversee management and statutory reporting, controls, compliance and relationships with external advisors
• Improve the quality, speed and usefulness of reporting across the business
• Lead a compact and dynamic team and create the capacity for finance to contribute more widely

  
Your Profile

• A strong background in broad senior finance roles, with experience contributing beyond the traditional reporting and control remit
• A recognised accounting qualification, supported by sound experience across financial management and commercial decision support
• The judgement and confidence to contribute meaningfully alongside senior leaders
• Strong forecasting, modelling and analytical skills, with the ability to identify the commercial story behind the numbers
• Experience contributing to pricing, investment decisions, business cases, profitability or performance improvement
• A practical communication style and the confidence to question assumptions without making things unnecessarily complicated
• The ability to think beyond finance while still maintaining reliable reporting, controls and delivery
• A hands-on and adaptable approach, with the willingness to move between wider business priorities and detailed financial issues
• Full, unrestricted working rights for New Zealand and be based in or actively relocating to Christchurch
