DCS Specialist – Intake

Schedule: Thursday – Monday
Shift Options:

  • 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM
  • 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Position Summary

The DCS Specialist – Intake serves as the first point of contact for reports of alleged child abuse and neglect. This position is responsible for conducting interviews, gathering information, evaluating concerns against statutory requirements, documenting findings, and determining whether a report meets criteria for investigation.

This role requires strong critical thinking, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain professional and objective while handling emotionally sensitive situations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Screen reports of alleged child abuse and neglect.
  • Conduct detailed phone interviews and information gathering.
  • Research and evaluate information to determine if reports meet statutory criteria for investigation.
  • Write clear, accurate, and professional narratives.
  • Perform detailed data entry while conducting interviews.
  • Respond to members of the public professionally and without bias.
  • Process correspondence and inquiries related to children in DCS custody.
  • Cross-report applicable cases to law enforcement and other state, county, or tribal agencies.
  • Utilize departmental databases, call center applications, and computer systems.
  • Complete all documentation and case finalization before the end of each shift.
  • Adhere to assigned schedules, breaks, and attendance requirements.
  • Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and additional hours as business needs require.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum one year of social services, behavioral health, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, child welfare, or related experience.
  • Ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
  • Must be willing to work either shift listed above.
  • Must be comfortable working onsite in a high-volume call center environment.
