Field Technician – Break/Fix & Component-Level Hardware Support

Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Field Technician to provide onsite break/fix and hardware component replacement services at an end-customer site in Midtown Manhattan. This is project-based work that may involve repetitive service tickets and hardware swaps. The technician must be professional, reliable, comfortable working independently, and capable of completing hardware replacements accurately with minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Respond onsite to hardware break/fix and bench-service tickets.

  • Diagnose hardware issues and perform component-level replacements as directed.

  • Replace SSDs, hard drives, memory, power supplies, fans, network adapters, and other field-replaceable components.

  • For this project, perform SSD/hard-drive replacements in customer equipment.

  • Safely remove failed components and install replacement parts according to manufacturer procedures.

  • Verify proper seating, cabling, connections, and hardware configuration following replacement.

  • Power systems on and perform basic post-repair validation/testing.

  • Follow ticket instructions, asset identification requirements, and customer procedures.

  • Document completed work, parts replaced, serial numbers, asset information, and test results.

  • Escalate issues that fall outside the authorized repair scope.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area within the customer's facility.

  • Follow all customer security, safety, access, and data-handling requirements.

Required Technical Experience

  • 2 years of hands-on IT hardware, field service, data center, desktop/server support, or break/fix experience.

  • Demonstrated experience performing hardware component swaps in production or enterprise environments.

  • Strong familiarity with SSDs, HDDs, RAM, power supplies, cooling components, cabling, and other replaceable hardware.

  • Ability to identify hardware components, understand basic system architecture, and follow technical replacement procedures.

  • Experience working from service tickets, work orders, manufacturer documentation, or written procedures.

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware failures and distinguish between a straightforward component replacement and an issue requiring escalation.

  • Comfortable working with servers, workstations, storage systems, network equipment, or other enterprise IT hardware.

  • Ability to work independently at an end-customer location while maintaining professional customer-facing conduct.

Tools & Equipment

  • Technician must provide and bring their own standard field-service tools, including appropriate hand tools and ESD-safe equipment.

  • Ability to safely handle sensitive electronic components and follow appropriate ESD procedures.

  • Technician should have experience working with manufacturer-specific hardware and basic diagnostic tools.

Preferred Experience

  • Data center technician or smart-hands experience.

  • Server break/fix experience with Dell, HPE, Lenovo, IBM, or similar enterprise platforms.

  • Experience replacing drives in RAID/storage environments.

  • Experience with enterprise servers, storage arrays, workstations, or network appliances.

  • Experience working in financial services, enterprise, data center, or other high-security customer environments.

  • Familiarity with asset management and ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or similar platforms.

Professional Requirements

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are critical.

  • Professional appearance and communication skills.

  • Comfortable working directly within an end-customer environment.

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures without constant supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling customer equipment and documenting completed work.

  • Ability to perform repetitive hardware replacement work while maintaining consistent quality and accuracy.

  • Ability to safely lift and handle typical IT equipment and components as required.

Project Scope
The immediate assignment involves entering an end-customer facility in Midtown Manhattan and performing SSD/hard-drive swaps on customer equipment. The work may be repetitive and ticket-driven, with multiple units requiring the same replacement procedure. The successful technician will be expected to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy, documentation, equipment handling, and customer professionalism.
