About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Network Security Engineer to join a large, nationally significant organisation responsible for supporting critical operational infrastructure across Australia.
This role sits within a specialist Network & Telecommunications Platform team undertaking a major multi-year network modernisation program. The program will transform legacy IP and non-IP technologies into a modern, highly resilient IP-based network incorporating terrestrial, microwave and satellite communications technologies.
Working within a complex, 24/7 operational environment, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, support and continuous improvement of enterprise and operational network security services that support mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you will:

Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across network security technologies and projects.

Design, implement and maintain secure network infrastructure solutions.
-
Support the delivery of a large-scale network transformation program.
-
Investigate, analyse and resolve complex network security incidents and system defects.
-
Contribute to system design assurance, integrity, safety and security outcomes.
-
Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, standards and test plans.
-
Ensure systems comply with relevant regulatory, security and operational requirements.

Support operational networks and participate in an on-call roster (minimum one week per month).

Work closely with engineering, operational, project and vendor stakeholders.

Mentor and coach junior team members and provide technical guidance across the broader team.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives across network security frameworks, governance and operational processes.
Technical Skills & Experience
To be successful, you will demonstrate:

7+ years' experience supporting complex network security environments.
-
Strong expertise across:
-
Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW)
-
BGP Routing and Traffic Engineering
-
Load Balancing
-
Web and Reverse Proxy Technologies
-
Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
-
IPS/IDS Solutions
-
VPN and Remote Access Technologies
-
-
Experience identifying, analysing and mitigating security vulnerabilities and threats.

Strong understanding of systems engineering, change management and operational support practices.

Knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks including:
-
Information Security Manual (ISM)
-
Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
-
-
Experience operating within highly available, safety-critical or mission-critical environments.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Requirements

Australian Citizenship.
-
NV1 Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Diploma or higher qualification in Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Advanced certifications in technologies such as Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5 or Infoblox, or equivalent demonstrated industry experience.
Highly Desirable

AWS Advanced Networking and/or Security certifications.

Microsoft Azure certifications.
-
CISSP or ISSEP certifications.
-
Degree in Engineering or Information Technology.
-
Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or Registered Professional Engineer (RPEng) status.
