Senior Mechanical & Piping Designer

Senior Mechanical & Piping Designer 12-Month Contract | Brisbane Based | Hybrid Working Available
An engineering consultancy delivering major mining and industrial projects is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical & Piping Designer to join a growing project team.
This opportunity will see you working across large-scale brownfield and greenfield developments, supporting projects from study and FEED phases through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

The role

Design delivery

• Develop and coordinate mechanical and piping design deliverables in accordance with project specifications, industry standards and company procedures.
• Produce and review 3D models, plant layouts, equipment arrangements, piping routes, isometric drawings and detailed design documentation.
• Develop detailed mechanical component models and fabrication drawings in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Ensure design deliverables are completed safely, accurately and in line with project schedules.
• Participate in model reviews, design reviews, constructability assessments and multidisciplinary design coordination activities.
• Support project execution across all stages of the project lifecycle.

Technical responsibilities

• Develop plant layouts and piping systems for process facilities, materials handling systems, utilities and industrial infrastructure.
• Prepare general arrangement drawings, plot plans, piping isometrics and support details.
• Coordinate design interfaces with process, civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation disciplines.
• Integrate vendor and third-party models into federated project design environments.
• Apply relevant industry standards, project specifications and engineering procedures.
• Conduct clash detection reviews and model quality assurance activities.
• Contribute to design solutions that improve safety, operability, maintainability and constructability.

Stakeholder engagement

• Collaborate effectively with project teams, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work within both local and distributed project delivery teams.

About you

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Design, Mechanical Engineering, Drafting or a related discipline.
• Relevant industry certifications will be well regarded.
• Typically 10+ years of mechanical and piping design experience within mining, resources or heavy industrial environments.
• Experience working across FEED, detailed design, EPCM, construction support and commissioning phases.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project environments.

Industry experience Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly regarded:

• Mineral processing facilities
• Hydrometallurgical and process plant environments
• Materials handling systems
• Crushing, screening and comminution circuits
• Underground and surface mining infrastructure
• Utilities, water and slurry systems
• Process piping and pipeline networks
• Package engineering and major equipment integration
• Industrial infrastructure and non-process facilities

Software experience Candidates should have experience with one or more of the following platforms:

• AVEVA E3D
• Smart 3D (SP3D)
• AutoCAD Plant 3D
• AutoCAD
• Navisworks
• MicroStation
