Our client is seeking an experienced Director, Finance to provide strategic leadership across a respected and high-profile public sector organisation.
Joining during a period of organisational change, this is a unique opportunity to work alongside the Executive Leadership Team, influence strategic decision-making and help shape the organisation's future direction.
Initially offered as a three or six-month appointment, this opportunity also provides the possibility to apply for the substantive permanent position through an open recruitment process.

About the Role
You will lead the finance function and partner closely with senior executives to support sound financial management and organisational performance.
This is a broad leadership role that combines strategic business partnering with operational oversight. You will lead budgeting and forecasting, financial governance, statutory reporting and financial strategy while providing commercial advice that supports informed decision-making across the organisation.
Success in this role will come from your ability to build trusted executive relationships, lead confidently through change and balance strategic thinking with a practical, hands-on approach within a small high-performing finance team.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation's finance function and provide strategic financial leadership.
- Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to influence organisational planning and decision-making.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, management reporting and statutory reporting.
- Ensure compliance with government legislation, accounting standards and financial management frameworks.
- Strengthen financial governance, internal controls and risk management practices.
- Lead key financial initiatives, organisational improvement projects and finance strategy implementation.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, shared service providers and external partners.
- Mentor, develop and support a collaborative, high-performing finance team.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Significant senior finance leadership experience within a complex organisation, within the Queensland public sector (highly desirable).
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including financial reporting, governance and compliance.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic financial advice to executive leaders and influencing organisational outcomes.
- Proven ability to build trusted stakeholder relationships and operate confidently at executive level.
- Experience leading teams through organisational change while maintaining engagement and performance.
- Excellent communication, leadership and business partnering skills.
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline or a CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Three or six-month appointment, with the possibility of extension and potential opportunity to apply for the substantive permanent role.
- Contract option: $113 - $119 per hour + super
- Temporary option: $171,622 - $179,569 per annum + super
- Brisbane CBD location, close to public transport
- Hybrid working arrangements (negotiable)
