Location: Remote (Juno Beach, FL)
Contract: 12 Months
Pay Rate: $67.95/hour

Our Engineering & Construction Business Unit is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Substation to support the delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This position is responsible for leading assigned substation projects from early development through construction, commissioning, and project closeout.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned high-voltage substation projects from conceptual design through commissioning.
• Partner with Early-Stage Project Managers to define engineering scope and technical requirements.
• Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for external Engineers of Record (EORs).
• Ensure designs comply with project specifications, interconnection agreements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and applicable industry standards.
• Develop engineering scopes of work and manage consultant selection through the Integrated Supply Chain team.
• Coordinate geotechnical investigations, surveys, engineering activities, permitting, and site development.
• Support estimating activities by providing technical guidance and project feedback.
• Manage procurement of long-lead substation equipment and engineering services to minimize schedule and budget risk.
• Coordinate with internal engineering disciplines and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
• Review transmission system impact studies, facility studies, reactive power studies, harmonic studies, and interconnection agreements.
• Work closely with transmission owners, ISOs, and utilities to ensure project compliance and timely delivery.
• Support project commissioning and start-up activities.
• Assist with regulatory filings and legal support when required.
• Collaborate with OEMs to improve equipment integration and standardization across projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering preferred.
• 7+ years of experience designing and engineering high-voltage substations.
• Strong background delivering utility or renewable energy infrastructure projects.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and external consultants.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and utility interconnection requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• PMP certification.
• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy generation projects.
• Previous project engineering or project management experience.
