Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to support delivery on a large-scale data centre project in Munich. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate setting out and surveying services to ensure all works are constructed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and required tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

Setting Out & Surveying

• Establish grid lines, benchmarks, and control points
• Set out foundations, slabs, structural steel, services, and finishes
• Carry out dimensional checks on completed works
• Maintain and manage the project survey control network

Quality & Accuracy Control

• Ensure all works comply with drawings, specifications, and tolerances
• Conduct as-built surveys and accurately record deviations
• Identify and escalate discrepancies or errors at an early stage
• Support a right-first-time delivery approach across all site activities

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate setting out records and survey reports
• Prepare and update as-built drawings
• Support QA/QC processes, including ITPs and inspections
• Ensure full traceability of all survey data

Coordination

• Liaise with site engineers, subcontractors, and the design team
• Resolve discrepancies between design drawings and site conditions
• Support coordination across CSA (Civil, Structural & Architectural) and MEP disciplines

Planning & Support

• Review drawings ahead of works commencing
• Identify potential clashes, risks, and constructability issues
• Support short-term planning and lookahead schedules
• Provide accurate setting out data to subcontractors

Equipment & Calibration

• Maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS, and levels
• Ensure all equipment is calibrated and fit for purpose
• Manage equipment checks, storage, and usage logs

Health & Safety

• Ensure safe operation and use of all survey equipment
• Follow method statements and risk assessments at all times
• Contribute to the safe execution of all site activities

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on large-scale construction projects (data centre experience advantageous)
• Strong knowledge of surveying equipment and software
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Eligible to work in the EU / willing to work in Munich
