Role Overview:
 
The Technical Specialist Library Systems supports, maintains and enhances the library's core technology systems to ensure reliable, efficient delivery of library services. The role delivers technical expertise in system administration, troubleshooting and system integration to streamline staff workflows and enhance the community's access to, and engagement with, the library's collections, services, and facilities.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Manage the reliability and performance of core enterprise library systems to deliver stable,
    high‑availability platforms supporting equitable access to services, collections, and facilities.
  • Manage and optimise integrations across the library's systems environment, ensuring seamless interoperability between the LMS, RFID systems, discovery systems, eResource platforms,
    authentication services, and related enterprise applications.
  • Drive continuous improvement of library technologies, planning and configuring system enhancements that increase staff productivity and elevate customer service outcomes.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement system upgrades, and vendor supported changes, applying structured change management practices to minimise service disruption and ensure the changes deliver the
    intended benefits.
  • Build organisational capability in library technologies through expert advice, training, and guidance that support informed decisions and effective adoption.
  • Work closely with teams across the organisation and external partners to support continuous advancement of library systems, digital services and the overall customer experience.
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation, procedures and technical guidance that builds staff capability and supports effective use of library systems.
  • Contribute specialist knowledge and operational insight to the planning and delivery of technology projects, helping ensure practical, effective and service aligned outcomes.
  • Produce routine and ad hoc technology reports, providing clear analysis and insights into system usage, aligned with agreed standards and delivery timeframes.
  • Actively participate in relevant meetings to support and progress service improvement initiatives across the Library Service.
  • Undertake scheduled service desk shifts, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, user-focusedfrontline services across the Library.
 
Qualifications and Experience
  • Eligible for membership of Australian Library and Information Association or experience relevant to the duties stated
  • Current Class C Driver Licence  
Essential Experience: minimum of 2 years experience in; Managing, configuring, and supporting core library systems including a Library Management System, RFID systems and PC bookings and print management software.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues Experience planning, coordinating, and delivering system upgrades, enhancements, and vendor supported changes using structured change management practices.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to enhance systems performance, digital services, and the customer experience.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate documentation, processes and guides that support consistent and effective system use.
  • Demonstrated capability to own and deliver key components of technology projects from planning to review.
  • Ability to investigate and assess the suitability of emerging library technologies and services, and document clear recommendations for enhancement or implementation.
  • Strong ability to organise workload, manage competing demands and meet deadlines. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to create and deliver systems training that improves staff skills and confidence.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and monitor service performance to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and service level agreements.
  • Proven commitment to delivering high-quality, responsive, and customer-focused service.
Highly Desirable:
  • Experience with using Bibliotheca and FE Technologies RFID systems
  • Experience in managing and maintaining the Libero library management system
