HARKE has partnered with a growing and innovative government secondary school in Melbourne’s north.
The school takes a progressive approach to education, moving away from traditional year-level structures to give students greater choice over their learning. Its vertical curriculum allows students to progress based on their interests, readiness and learning needs, with a strong focus on student agency, inquiry, real-world learning and 21st-century skills.

About the Position
The school is seeking a Learning Specialist – Teaching & Learning to improve teaching practice across the College, with a particular focus on inclusive, high-quality classroom instruction.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an excellent classroom teacher who can show other teachers what effective practice looks like.
The Learning Specialist will operate a model classroom, host teacher observations, coach and mentor staff, lead professional learning and work alongside teachers to strengthen their classroom practice.
The role works alongside the school’s Disability & Inclusion Leader. Its focus is not on managing inclusion systems or paperwork, but on helping teachers deliver better differentiation, adjustments, engagement and accessible learning in everyday classrooms.

Model exemplary teaching through demonstration lessons and an open classroom.

Coach and mentor teachers through observation, feedback and professional learning.

Strengthen inclusive teaching, differentiation and curriculum accessibility.

Support teachers to use evidence, assessment and student data to improve learning.

Lead practical professional learning focused on improving classroom teaching and student engagement.
Key Criteria to Apply
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

Strong curriculum knowledge and a track record as a high-quality classroom practitioner.

Experience using evidence-based teaching strategies to respond to different student learning needs.

Strong capability in inclusive teaching, differentiation and supporting diverse learners.

Experience coaching, mentoring, observing or developing other teachers.

Confidence modelling their own classroom practice for colleagues.

Ability to use assessment and student data to inform teaching and provide effective feedback.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.

Alignment with a progressive, student-driven learning model and willingness to work flexibly within a non-traditional curriculum structure.
Requirements

Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

Relevant teaching qualifications.

Full Australian work rights.

Two professional referees.
