Technical Design Manager – Renewable Energy / BESS (AUS Based)

Our client is a global battery technology group expanding its renewable energy footprint in Australia. They are seeking a technically strong design professional to support early-stage development activities across a portfolio of renewable and energy storage projects, from site feasibility through to ready-to-build and delivery.

This role sits within a highly capable development team and offers the opportunity to contribute to project growth in Australia, with future expansion into new markets. It suits someone who is comfortable working in a fast-moving, commercially driven environment and who can contribute from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Support power system and connection design for battery storage, co-located storage, solar PV, hydrogen, and wind projects.

• Lead and review engineering feasibility work, technical assessments, and value engineering studies.

• Develop and refine electrical layouts, equipment sizing, single-line diagrams, and connection concepts.

• Review contractor and consultant deliverables, challenging design assumptions where required.

• Carry out electrical and power system studies, including stability and performance assessments.

• Work closely with development, procurement, engineering, controls, and construction teams to support design, commissioning, and delivery.

• Liaise with utilities, consultants, suppliers, and external stakeholders to progress technical solutions.

• Help define and improve engineering standards, tools, and design practices.

Candidate profile

• Background in electrical engineering, power systems, or related discipline.

• Experience in renewable energy, energy storage, system planning, or consultancy.

• Strong understanding of network connection design and electrical infrastructure from high voltage through to LV.

• Familiarity with tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM-related platforms.

• Comfortable with commercial and technical analysis, including capex/opex considerations.

• Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Knowledge of the Australian energy market is preferred or Australia based.

• Experience with BESS, solar PV, or wind projects would be an advantage.
